Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Police state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then located multiple other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the public for tips.
An important official stated the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
